Kira, who has an injured leg, was saved as a baby from going to the field. Most of the injured are taken to the field as soon as they figure out it can not be fixed, but Kira had a gift. She may have a broken leg but her hands are just fine and she can weave very good. The guardians decide to take her in. She helps repair the Singer's robe, and learns how to dye, but Kira is sad because both of her parents are dead.

I came over from UBP. Your site would have been my dream when I was a kid. The familiar authors and series are taking me back to a time when I'd hole up in my room with the latest parcel from Scholastic!
